Neon Moon: Feminist Lingerie

In a nutshell:

What do they sell? Lingerie to empower women

Why are they so great? Neon Moon is Photoshop free, sexualisation free & objectification free in an industry that has made the opposite in the norm, while being completely sweatshop free too

Neon Moon stands for empowerment through body positivity, and that goes anyone who identifies as a woman, wherever they are in the production line

The full story:

Who is Neon Moon?

Neon Moon is a London-based start-up who nailed it on Kickstarter back in 2015 with their CEO Hayat Rachi. She saw that the lingerie industry was a total mess – Photoshopping, false body positivity and designs that claimed to empower women, but actually created an elitist and exclusionary atmosphere for most women. Neon Moon wanted to change that: they design lingerie that is meant to make you feel good in whatever way you want it to, whatever size you

are & whoever you are.

Neon Moon wants this feminist outlook to cover every aspect of their company, which means that they aim to empower the women who make their clothes as well as the women who wear them. All their production happens in the UK at fair factories, so they can easily answer the question ‘who made my clothes?’.

Why is what they do important?

Neon Moon do not tell women how they should feel or look. Their models are never instructed to take a certain pose. They are never told to shave their legs or wear make-up if they don’t want to. They are meant to reflect what it is really like to be who they are in that moment. The message Neon Moon wants to give is simple: ‘If you feel sexy, great! If you feel confident, awesome! If you feel comfortable, yay! We want to empower you to feel good about yourself.’ That’s where the first three prongs of their mantra comes in: ‘Photoshop free, sexualisation free, objectification free.’

Another problem Neon Moon identified and wanted to combat is one-sided feminism in the clothing industry that aims to empower women in one country, while turning a blind eye to its impact on women in other countries. Feminism, body positivity & empowerment for women are not marketing tools or campaign hooks for Neon Moon, they are the core of their brand.
